Many organisms in reef aquariums consume magnesium dissolved in the water, primarily to build their skeletal structures. The groups with the highest magnesium consumption include both soft corals and calcareous red algae.

This magnesium consumption in the aquaria can often not be compensated by water changes, so an extra supply becomes inevitable.
To increase the magnesium content, you can either use self-prepared solutions of our magnesium chloride hexahydrate, or mix it with magnesium sulfate heptahydrate as described in the Balling method, for example.
Just like our calcium and carbonate salts, our magnesium salts are of the best pharmaceutical and food quality.
Übersetzter Text The optimum magnesium concentration in a reef aquarium is 1300 - 1400 mg/l. A constant supply of carbonate ions is particularly necessary in reef aquariums, as hard corals in particular need them together with calcium ions to build up their calcium skeleton.
